Food is served from behind a counter cafeteria style, similar to how Subway works. You can pick your meat, then move on to sides and finally desert.
Take-out or dine-in is available, with a number of tables and a large counter top to eat at. Drinks and food is generally self serve, but some of their fried sides are prepared when you order them, so they may bring them out, rather than have you wait to eat.
Cost wise, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is typically more expensive than fast food, when you add sides and drinks, and certainly more expensive than Smithfield Barbecue. However, there is a lot more selection and the food is of higher quality. Their Meat Plates, which allow you to pick a meat and include two sides, start at $8 for a 1/4 pound of meat and two sides. Their two meat plate is $11. They Sandwiches range from $4 to $7 and you can make it a plate, which includes two sides, for an extra $3.
In addition to free soft serve ice cream with each meal, children 12 and under eat for free on Sunday’s.
Reviews:
I had never eaten at Dickey’s before, even though they have a few other stores in the triangle. However, I went there a few weeks ago and thought the food was really good. I went the safe route and got a pulled pork sandwich, but the guy behind the counter insisted I try some of the other meats and I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely going to try one of the briskets next time!
